An online petition has been launched in order to try and save the former Coronation Street set from demolition.
According to reports, the set was used for the hit soap from 1982 until last year when it was moved to Salford.
The site is not up for demolition with flats, offices and shops planned for the famous cobbles.
“The set is loved by millions worldwide… At the moment, when you walk down the cobbled street past the Rovers Return or go inside the pub interior, you’re having the unique experience of walking where Ena Sharples, Annie Walker, Bet Lynch, Hilda and Stan Ogden, Vera and Jack Duckworth, Elsie Tanner, Alf Roberts and many other famous and much-loved characters have walked before you,” wrote Juliet Cusimano in the campaign.
“You’ll never have this experience at the new set in Salford,” she added.
Meanwhile in response to the petition, Courtney Crawford, from Auckland, New Zealand pledged her support writing; “I am signing this because Coronation Street isn’t just a show for the English.
“It (the set) is something that people will treasure, so with this point, don’t bulldoze it. Invest in it, keep it as a tourist location… draw the people in to visit this set. Preserve it,” she added.
