The stellar performance, however, really lay in the duet Saoirse and Jimmy gave on the night. The two donned their winter scarves and Saoirse explained the concept of a lock-in to the non-Irish folk watching. She said:
"Everyone just goes to the pub, we lock the doors, we have a drink and we have a sing-song."So, to reacreate the fine Irish tradition, they stood in front of a decorated piano, a pint of Guinness in hand and belted out the classic Pogues tune, Fairytale of New York. Jimmy gave a decent attempt at Shane MacGowan's gravely baritone and Saoirse surprised us with a really pleasant voice (is there nothing she can't do?) The audience gave an overwhelming reception at the end of the performance and to be fair, Jimmy and Saoirse totally nailed it!
