Representatives for RTÉ Radio 1 have announced that The John Murray Show will “come to a close” next week.
In a statement, the national broadcaster said:
“On Friday 3rd July, after five years on RTÉ Radio 1, The John Murray Show will come to a close. John Murray will return in the autumn and will continue to broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 in a brand new role. Brendan O’Connor will present the 9am slot for the month of July.”
Brendan’s role at the helm of RTÉ’s Saturday night offering was dramatically cut back in March, when the broadcaster announced that the fifth season of his chat show would be his last. At the time, he did reference upcoming projects with RTÉ.
Ray D’Arcy, who left rival Today FM for RTÉ earlier this year, will present a new show on RTÉ One on Saturday evenings from the autumn.
John Murray said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to present the show for the last 5 years. I want to thank everyone who worked on the programme in that period but most of all I want to thank the listeners for their support and for making it all worthwhile.”
He added: “I am looking forward to returning in the autumn to a new role with the station.”
