Exciting news for Gavin and Stacey fans!
Rob Brydon has recently hinted that there could be another Gavin and Stacey special in the works.
The Welsh actor revealed that he can see another special episode after the 2019 Christmas special left viewers “hanging”.
Brydon addressed the future of the show on an episode of his podcast. He told his guest Sheridan Smith that we probably haven’t heard the last from the iconic Welsh series:
“I think they might do one more special because they left it hanging, didn’t they, with the proposal? So it would seem strange if they didn’t.”
Sheridan agreed with Brydon and acknowledged the demand for more:
“They created this masterpiece sort of one-off Christmas special. Now everyone’s asking for more, aren’t they?”
The actress continued: “What a cast and everyone was so lovely; the crew, everyone, was brilliant on that job. They wrote it so well and so to just be a small part of it was an honour.”
Given the huge popularity of the show – and the cliff-hanger ending – it seems natural that the gang would unite for one last hurrah.
When we last saw Gavin and Stacey, Nessa (Ruth Jones) was on one knee, popping the question to Smithy (James Corden).
The credits began to roll before Smithy gave an answer.
Gavin and Stacey hit our screens in 2007, and while there’s only been 21 episodes in total, the programme captivated audiences both in Ireland and the UK.
The 2019 Christmas Special, for instance, was watched by 18.49 million viewers.
The episode was record-breaking, and it entered British TV history as the most-watched non-sporting event in over a decade. The special also became one of the most-watched comedies in UK history.
Last year, Gavin and Stacey picked up the Impact Award at The National Television Awards.
