Restless, an extremely tense 2025 British thriller movie, has been made available to watch at home.
Streaming via NOW after a cinema release last April, the film stars an excellent Lyndsey Marshal (Trespass Against Us) as Nicky, a mild-mannered care worker living alone.
Her quiet life is disturbed, however, when an intimidating party animal named Deano (Aston McAuley, Behind Her Eyes) moves into the house next door, a property that her parents inhabited for decades before their recent passing.
Nicky asks her new neighbour politely to keep the volume down so that she can get a good night's sleep. Deano, however, ignores her pleas.
In fact, the more Nicky complains, the more Deano goes out of his way to antagonise her.
Over several sleepless nights, Nicky finds herself drawn into an escalating feud that will test her resolve and her sanity.
The debut feature from writer-director Jed Hart, the movie also co-stars Irish actor Barry Ward (Bad Sisters) as an acquaintance of Nicky who gets drawn into the central conflict.
An incredibly gripping social thriller, Restless mines maximum tension from its smart premise that is rooted in everyday fears and portrayed believably.
It's the type of film where audience members will be asking themselves what they would do if they were in Nicky's situation.
This is as it constantly surprises viewers in how it plays out, as Nicky reveals herself to be much less meek than she at first seemed.
Holding a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score, you can check out some other rave reviews for Restless below:
AIPT: "Surprisingly effective horror movie that is a descent into madness that would make any Lovecraft fan proud. A scary and funny watch."
Aisle Seat: "It’s the kind of thriller that feels 100% plausible, which makes it creepy on a whole other level."
HeyUGuys: "Restless is a masterclass on how to truly capture the chaos, anxiety and the unravelling of a person’s sanity. What Jed Hart has created is incredible and taken to a whole new level with Lyndsey Marshal’s performance."
Movie Marker: "Hart’s feature directorial debut is a thriller unmatched by few this year; you’ll find yourself wanting to look away, but it will be impossible to do so."
Style Weekly: "Hart shrewdly blends a British kitchen sink movie in the vein of, say Ken Loach, with a rough, equally class-conscious Brit thriller along the lines of an Eden Lake.”
What She Said: "Extremely interesting and astute; if you’ve had a bad neighbour, you can relate. If you’ve been a bad neighbour, shame on you."
Restless is currently streaming in Ireland and the UK via NOW.
