Friends fans have gained a huge amount of unknown facts since the show hit Netflix.
From terrible background actors, to ugly naked guy’s identity being revealed we have learned a lot about the show that ended in 2004.
There is also no shortage of opinions about who should have ended up with who, and while Ross and Rachel was always a sure thing, Phoebe’s love life could have been completely different.
Throughout the show, and all of Phoebes wacky dates like Parker, Gary and Ryan there were only ever two real contenders. David and Mike.
David was Phoebe’s first love and while they are equally quirky and well-suited, he ruined his chances by taking a job in Minsk.
Then we all fell in love with Mike and were delighted Phoebe married him in the snow storm, but that’s not how it meant to end at all.
That is according to Hank Azaria who played David.
In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Azaria was asked about his time on the show and he explained that David and Phoebe were always meant to end up together, but then everyone fell in love with Paul Rudd and they couldn’t write him out of the show.
When asked about whether he was mad about losing out to Rudd he said:
“It actually did sting a little bit,” said Azaria. “Whatever part of me is David the science guy who went to Minsk, which admittedly is probably a small part of me [laughs], but that part of me wanted to end up with Phoebe. So I was sort of sad when I didn’t.”
While we feel bad for the scientist, we can’t imagine what Friends would have been like if it ended with Phoebe marrying David instead.
