People are saying this might be the scariest horror film to be released in years

Not a fan of horror?

You may as well click out now, so.

If you are though, this is your lucky day because there’s a new horror movie set for release this year and it looks absolutely terrifying.

Like, not Cabin in the Woods or Insidious terrifying, this film looks actually, real life, scared-to-turn-the-lights-off-afterwards scary.

And we’re dying to see it.

From the producer of The Witch comes Hereditary, a film about a dead grandmother, a scared mother, and a child that is slightly less than normal.

Starring Gabriel Byrne, Toni Collette, and Alex Wolff, the film follows the mother and daughter as they deal with the aftermath of the older woman’s death and uncover some less than ideal details about their family’s history.

The trailer has been doing the rounds most recently this week, and we have to say, you wouldn’t want to be watching this alone.

The film isn’t set for release in Ireland until June 8, but critics are already calling it “this generation’s The Exorcist,” “an unsettling look at what demons we inherit from our parents,” and, quite simply “terrifying.”

It’s also been described as “pure emotional terrorism,” so, you know, not for the faint of heart.

The film is directed by Ari Aster, who’s responsible for writing and directing six short movies, but this will be his feature-length directorial debut.

Hereditary is released in Irish cinemas on June 8.
