Speculation had been growing in recent weeks that the cult classic, which also starred David Duchovny as conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder, could be returning to the small screen and network Fox has now confirmed that discussions have been taking place about a possible reboot.
Following the end of the television series, the supernatural drama was revived for two films, the last of which was released in 2008.
Fox TV Chairman Gary Newman said this week that he was “hopeful” that the talks would be successful.
