New series of Reeling In The Years to air on RTE this spring

TV fans rejoice - we've got brand new Reeling In The Years to look forward to.

A new series of the classic RTE show will be on our screens in the coming months, the broadcaster has confirmed. This season, which will be the fifth, will look back on the 2010s. RTE has announced that the show will air as part of its spring 2021 schedule, reports The Journal. As with previous series, each 25 minute-long episode will revisit Irish and international news and events from each year of the decade using archive footage and popular music from that year. This time around, Reeling In The Years will take viewers from 2010 through to 2019. Major events that we might expect to see covered in the first episode of the new series include Ireland dealing with austerity measures, the IMF bailout, the controversy around head shops, the travel chaos caused by volcanic ash from Iceland, the FIFA World Cup in Johannesburg and the sudden death of radio host Gerry Ryan. Top songs from 2010 that might feature, meanwhile, are Horse Outside by the Rubber Bandits, Firework by Katy Perry, Florence and the Machine's Cosmic Love and Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger. Reeling In The Years is one of the state broadcaster's best-loved products and was previously voted Ireland's most popular home-produced TV programme ever. Its producers have stated that each series takes eight months to make.
