I’ll probably love this Netflix film, but people have been slating it
BY Simon Kelly
This Netflix movie has been called one of the worst Christmas movies.
With the likes of Hallmark churning out movies by the dozen for years at this point, Netflix seems to be getting in on the game recently, with a handful of festive offerings coming to our screens year after year.
One flick that’s already been released, the ironically named Best. Christmas. Ever!, is getting some early buzz for all the wrong reasons.
Starring some big names including Jason Biggs and Heather Graham, the new rom-com is directed by industry veteran Mary Lambert who is well known for directing mainly horror movies, including the original Pet Semetary in 1989.
In a bizarre genre switch, Lambert is now directing her second Christmas flick in as many years (following up on her other Netflix outing A Castle for Christmas). The synopsis for Best. Christmas. Ever! is as follows:
Every Christmas Jackie sends a boastful holiday newsletter that makes her old college friend Charlotte feel like a lump of coal. When a twist of fate lands Charlotte and her family on Jackie’s snowy doorstep just days before Christmas, she seizes the opportunity to prove her old friend’s life can’t possibly be that perfect.
While new Christmas movies are always welcome and not necessarily taken seriously in an artistic sense – they exist for a very specific reason – viewers don’t take it easy on them when they fail to meet expectations.
Unfortunately Best. Christmas. Ever! seems to have fallen short for most viewers. Sitting at a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, some have had some pretty damning things to say about the rom-com.
