Merida From Brave To Become Disney’s 11th Official Princess

She was already one of our favourites...

Disney have announced that Merida will be the 11th official Disney Princess. The star of Brave will be crowned in a ceremony at Cinderella’s Castle at the Orlando theme park on May 11th.

Merida will join the ranks of the other official Princesses, Ariel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Tiana from the Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel.

The official Disney Princess campaign began back in early 2000’s, despite the fact that Snow White, it’s first princess, was animated in 1937, according to the Huffington Post.

The Scottish Princess, voiced by Kelly McDonald, will be the first to be crowned from the Pixar world, but she is getting an artistic makeover to bring her in line with the other Princesses.

For all its worth, we were kind of disappointed to hear that she was being remodelled as the beauty of the Merida character was the fact that she was the first real fighting heroine from Disney and really in a league of her own.

She still got to keep her bow and arrow though…
