Love Actually fans are only noticing this heartbreaking detail in the film

Love Actually is constantly breaking our hearts

Watching Love Actually every Christmas is one of our favourite festive traditions even if it breaks our hearts every single time.

It’s an emotional rollercoaster of a film with a stellar cast and some truly iconic scenes.

Is it one of the best Christmas movies around? Without a doubt. However, it never fails to leave us crying like babies all these years later.

The film is 21 years old this year and fans have only just noticed a heartbreaking detail in what we believe to be the film’s saddest scene.

Emma Thompson. The necklace. Joni Mitchell.

It’s the scene that truly tears our hearts in two, but it’s one of the strongest moments in the movie.

However, Love Actually fans recently realised something that makes the scene even more upsetting and we can’t believe we never noticed this before.

As we all know, Emma Thompson finds a beautiful gold necklace in her husband Harry’s coat pocket just before Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve, the mum is sitting by the tree with her family when they all agree to open one gift each.

Karen (Emma Thompson) opens what she believes is the beautiful necklace but is met with a Joni Mitchell CD.

What we didn’t notice before is that Karen’s make-up and outfit perfectly match the necklace she thought was sitting under the tree.

One fan pointed this out on TikTok and it has left us feeling a little heartbroken.

One fan wrote, “WAIT. What do you mean she matched her earrings?!! How have I NEVER noticed that???”

“I’ve always said the earrings, lipstick and cardigan all ready to match it is the saddest part of all,” one added.

If anyone needs us we’ll be sobbing in the corner to Joni Mitchell.
