Romcom fans rejoice – we have some very happy news for you this sunny Friday morning.

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is set for a TV remake.

Yep – Paramount and streaming platform Quibi are working on an modern take on the 2003 film.

A classic that came towards the end of Hollywood’s romantic comedy golden era, the original stars Kate Hudson as ambitious magazine writer Andie and Matthew McConaughey as ladies’ man Benjamin.

In it, Andie sets herself a challenge of losing a guy in a week and a half for an article she’s writing while Benjamin accepts a bet that he’ll be able to make someone fall for him in the same timeframe. What could go wrong?

The remake is set to be written by Guy Branum, who has contributed to shows like The Mindy Project and Awkward.

He’s confirmed that his take will focus on the same characters and storyline.

“We were all certain you could not make a good romantic comedy anymore because print media is dead and RomCom ladies have to work at magazines, but against the tides of history, Quibi & Paramount have agreed to let me re-write ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” Branum announced

“I will be observing and consulting numerous photos of shirtless Matthew McConaughey to properly research this task.”

Though Guy jokes about romcoms being a relic, the news of this revival comes at an exciting time for the genre.

Streaming services like Netflix are going against modern studio convention and betting on love stories again.

The results (think Someone Great, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, etc) might not hold up to the Nora Ephron classics lots of us were reared on but their popularity with viewers gives us hope for a more widespread romcom renaissance.
