Looks like Phil from Tallafornia’s First Date is going to be awkward as

Ah, god.

Oh.

Remember Tallafornia?

Of course you do.

It ran for two whole seasons on TV3 and was even shot in Santa Ponsa for a bit.

Ireland’s answer to Jersey Shore, Tallafornia presented us with the likes of Jay Abbey, Niall Fagon and, of course, Phil Penny.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that Phil was set to make his debut First Dates Ireland appearance so, naturally, we were all very excited indeed.

After all, what could go wrong?

As it turns out, a lot, actually.

Phil was matched up with Louth mum-of-one, Amy-Maria.

And while the Tallaght lad seemed only delighted to be matched up Amy-Maria, she wasn’t all that happy with his attitude towards women.

… And the fact that he told her she had a “nice little hoop.”

Yeah, see? Not impressed… understandably so.

The awkwardness didn’t end with the date though because the pair appeared on Nicky Byrne’s 2FM show earlier today and they seemed less than enthused to be in each other’s presence again.

Amy-Maria said that she wasn’t impressed when Phil showed up to the date intensely hungover after having been out at a friend’s 30th birthday the night before.

Nicky, however, said it was grand because the All Ireland final had been on.

Grand.

The mum-of-one then went on to say that she felt Phil was “derogatory towards women” because of his comments about her body.

Amy-Maria said that at one stage during the date she walked away because she thought it might have been a wind-up.

She also said that Phil couldn’t “blame drink” for what he said because she had a few drinks on her too.

Go on Amy-Maria.

She said:

“I put myself out there which was a really big thing to do, and then it just turned into a joke.

It disgusted me. I felt like he was just playing a role.”

Phil went on to defend himself saying that anyone who knows him “… knows I’m just a lad’s lad, I like going to the pub, I like playing football.”

He also claimed that in general, he would be very polite on a date. So there you go.

First Dates Ireland continues tonight on RTE2 at 9.30pm.
