Legally Blonde The Musical has put a call out for a dog to join the cast when it comes to Dublin.
The stage production will hit the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from 5-10 March this year. They want an Irish dog to join Ex-EastEnders star Rita Simon, former X-factor finalist Lucie Jones and soap star Bill Ward, as part of the cast.
Like the movie, there are two dogs in the show. Bruiser the Chihuahua, who belongs to the leading lady Elle, and Rufus, who belonged to Elle’s friend Paulette. Bruiser has already been cast so now the show is looking for a Rufus.
As the Rufus is a bulldog in the movie, they’re looking for that breed in particular. Commenting on the callout, the team has said, “We are preferably looking for a Bull Dog as in the film, but we are certainly open to other like breeds. So long as they’re NOT cute and cuddly, in fact the Uglier the better!”
The production team has also highlighted the requirements:
- A British Bulldog – First and foremost we are looking for a British Bulldog as appeared in
the film. We are open to other breeds, but they need to have that look about them. Fairly
bullish and robust. Cute and fluffy is not what we are looking for here I’m afraid. - Temperament – The dog must be relaxed, laid back, good with people and enjoys a good fuss.
- Responsive to Commands – The dog must respond to ‘come here’, ‘sit’ etc
and doesn’t just wander off doing its own thing. - Tricks – We do not expect tricks, but if your lovable brute has any, they would love
to see them. - Experience – Although absolutely not essential, if the dog has some form of stage
experience it will be a huge bonus. Even the most confident of dogs can suddenly be
affected by the lights, the band and the huge round of applause they are bound to receive
on their big entrance!
If you think your dog would suit the show, email a photo of your dog with a brief description to [email protected]. Don’t forget to include your own details and put ‘Dublin Auditions’ in the subject bar.
If you are successful in your application for an audition place you will be notified by email and allocated a time slot for auditions on 8 February in Dublin.
