Judge Judy is officially ending after 25 seasons

Jade Hayden

A modern tragedy, if there ever was one.

There is not a single person among us who hasn’t spent many a weekday afternoon positioned directly in front of the TV watching Judge Judy.

The woman is an icon, part of an institution, a member of a series that was so popular, so entertaining, so inherently brilliant that it spanned a rather impressive 25 seasons.

Everything from petty theft to car trouble to tenets not paying their rent on time was bandied out by the TV judge who, despite her often cold and hardened demeanour, actually turned out to be a bit of a sweetheart. Maybe.

And now, regretfully, disappointingly, and entirely tragically, Judge Judy is coming to an end.

CCN reported this week that Judy confirmed the dire news herself during a pre-taped recording of The Ellen Show.

“I’ve had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS, and it’s been successful,” she said. “Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary.

“What they decided to do was sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns.”

A crying shame – and yet, all hope is not lost because Judy has promised that despite the end of the era, she isn’t tired of TV just yet.

Teasing a new series – aptly named Judy Justice – the 77 year old said that she couldn’t say a whole lot about her upcoming project, but that it will be airing some time in 2021, probably.

Sounds class, in fairness.
