Great friendships make for brilliant television.
While we love to watch couples falling for each other on the silver screen, there’s nothing better than following the trials and tribulations of a true friendship.
Check out seven of the best TV duos of all time below. Let us know if we’ve left out any of your favourites!
1. Ted and Dougal, Fr. Ted
These are small, but the ones out there are far away.
When it comes to great TV double-acts, it doesn’t get much funnier than Fr. Ted Crilly and Fr. Dougal McGuire. The iconic pair created one classic comedy moment after another, and they will live long in our hearts as our all-time favourite on-screen duo.
2. Karen and Jack, Will and Grace
Forget about Will and Grace, the real stars of the legendary show were Jack and Karen.
Back in the early naughties, these over-the-top BFFs kept us laughing non-stop with their hilarious on-screen antics. The kisses, the insults, the sass, the nights out. We loved every minute of their totally over-the-top friendship.
3. Chandler and Joey, Friends
The ultimate friends on Friends.
Before anyone ever heard of Turk and JD, the world fell in love with Chandler and Joey. They’re the ultimate TV bromance. Through all the highs and lows of life, they were there for each other (gettit?) and their friendship warmed our little hearts.
4. Mulder and Scully, The X Files
The truth is out there.
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were the perfect FBI pairing for almost ten years. And let’s face it, nobody did sexual tension like these two. Working side-by-side on weird and wacky cases, their investigative style and on-screen chemistry always made for compelling viewing.
5. Ant and Dec
The Geordie duo that have somehow found their way into all of our hearts. From Saturday Night Takeaway and I’m A Celeb to SMTV Live and Britain’s Got Talent, the charming chaps have been dominating the world of TV presenting for deacdes. Twenty years later they’re still going strong, and we can’t get enough of their cheeky antics.
6. Sherlock and Watson
These two are comedy gold.
The friendship between these two is timeless; you simply can’t have one without the other. That’s the true sign of a great TV duo. These characters have been portrayed by countless actos over the years, but Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s take on the pair is the most entertaining. We could watch these bickering and fighting two for hours on end.
7. Baz and Nancy, 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy
If you haven’t seen this Dublin mother-son duo in action on the big screen in their hit show, 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy, you’re missing out. The show follows Baz and Nancy travelling the world trying their hand at extreme sports, and the results, as you can imagine, are pretty damn hilarious.
The dynamic duo are currently starring in the new Dublin Bus ad The Mad Dash Home.
