One of Hollywood’s most adorable canine stars has died, age 13.

Uggie, the Jack Russell Terrier who stole the show in 2011’s Oscar-winner The Artist has passed away after battling a prostate tumour.

TMZ broke the news early on Wednesday that the four-legged star was put down in Los Angeles last Friday. His owner, Omar Von Mueller, expressed his sadness at the difficult decision but explained that Uggie had been suffering greatly in his last weeks of life.

In 2012 he was awarded a “Palm Dog” at the prestigious Cannes film festival.
