Here’s how to impress your music friends at Longitude!

Her

So, you’re heading to Longitude but you’re not exactly sure of the people that you’re going to see? Standard.

Festivals have this unique ability to make us feel part of something bigger than ourselves. They’re like this little vacation from the real world, a self-contained bubble where people can wear what they want and run around like drunk toddlers blowing off steam for a few days.

There is nothing more uplifting than joining thousands of people in a field singing your arse off to one of your favourite tunes.

This Longitude, avoid the embarrassing conversation of ‘oh, I love him/her’ only to be asked what your favourite song is and you end up pulling a blank.

Avoid giddily pronouncing to the crowd that  ‘This song is about meeeeee’ only to forget the second line, looking like an eejit and becoming the pariah of your friends.

I have taken the time to compile a must listen to list for your weekend.

So you can identify at least one song from the main headliners and some bangers from the lesser known acts that, chances are, you probably already know but didn’t know that you knew….

Kendrick Lamar – ‘Bitch don’t kill my vibe’

This one is  handy. Essentially the chorus is the name of the song repeated about 10 times.  Try not to squish your face, put your hands in the air and feel the beat, and for the love of god, bitch, don’t kill the vibe.

Major Lazer – ‘Pon de Floor’

https://youtu.be/VxD_7S7bl8k?list=PL586C1802BDE53B06

You’re going to look deadly when you tell people that Beyonce sampled this track on ‘Run The World (Girls)’.

Asap Ferg – ‘New Level’ ft Future

Sound Asap Ferg, very sound. Again all you need to do is repeat  ‘I’m on a new level’ fifty million times.  Try to avoid bindi bandwagoners during this one, bless them, they think they’re pioneers of industry.

Jamie XX-‘ I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)’ ft Young Thug, Popcaan

Jamie XX can basically do no wrong. He rose to prominence in his Mercury Music Prize winning band ‘The XX’ and has since gone on to remix Gil Scott Heron’s album and countless more. He is the definition of deadly.

Róisín Murphy – ‘You Know Me Better’

Firstly, Róisín is Irish, she is amazing, about to release a new album ‘ Take Her Up To Monto’ and she is one of the only female acts playing on a very male dominated line up. Sort it out Longitude.

Nina Kravitz – ‘Pain In The Ass’

You’ll spot fans of Nina a mile away. Bucket hats, bug-eye glasses, wellies and a jaw stretching from here to Timbuktu.

Kurt Vile – ‘Pretty Pimpin’

Kurt is your indie infusion in a line up that is so hip-hop and electro. If you fancy bearded lads in skinny jeans, vans and checked shirts, get to this stage pronto with a pint of the most expensive craft beer you can find and you’re sorted. (You can thank me later)

Daughter – ‘Youth’

One of those I don’t know the name of the band but I know the song. This is a cracking tune and has over 88 million views.

Otherkin- ‘Ay Ay’

I love this band and they’re Irish. Support your local musicians people!
