Harrison Ford is reportedly set to star in a TV adaptation of one of the most gripping true crime documentaries.

According to EWthe Star Wars actor is attached to star in a scripted series adaptation of The Staircase.

He will be playing novelist Michael Peterson in the series, which he will also executive produce. The Sinner’s Antonio Campos will write the series.

EW notes that while the project does not have a network or a streaming service attached yet, it is being shopped around.

Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s docuseries The Staircase is the compelling story of Michael Peterson, a crime novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen after she is found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home. He claimed that she hit her head after she fell down the stairs; however, the police suspected foul play.

The first eight episodes of The Staircase first debuted in 2005. Lestrade later filmed additional episodes, after Peterson had been granted a new trial.

Peterson took the Alford plea, which led Lestrade to rule out any further filming for the docuseries.

He explained to DigitalSpy how the judge’s decision was “the final answer, and nobody can come back to that.”

“That’s the end of the process for us. Sometimes I wish that some other step could be introduced in the court room that we could shoot,” he said. “But it was not. So yes, it’s finished.”

The entire 13-episode documentary series is currently available to watch on Netflix.
