Happy Days Ladies! The Latest Marvel Superhero Is…

The Marvel universe just got even hotter. Swoon.

The hottest lineup in movie history just got even dreamier with the addition of Sherlock himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. 

The British star has signed on to play Doctor Strange in an upcoming movie tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will star in a stand-alone film about the character in July of 2016.

The film is scheduled for release two months after Captain America 3 arrives in cinemas.

Cumberbatch, 38, has reportedly beaten other Hollywood heavyweights to the role, including Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy.

Doctor Strange first appeared in Marvel comics in the early 1960s. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character is a neurosurgeon who becomes Sorcerer Supreme, protecting Earth with his powers of sorcery.

The character was recently mentioned in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
