This guy on First Dates nearly called his date ‘fat’ last night and it was horrendous

We’ve seen our fair share of car crash dates on First Dates over the years but this was one hell of a show. Genius producers on the show decided to pair Othello and Juliette up for a date (yep, really) at the First Dates Hotel in Italy this week and while things got off to a strong start, it quickly started to go downhill and fast. For some reason, Othello and Juliette began discussing weight, with Othello telling his date that he’s always been skinny and doesn’t tend to put on weight before Juliette revealed she was the same until recently.

“As you can see, I’m quite skinny. Where I’m quite lucky is that I don’t gain weight that easily,” Othello told his date for God knows what reason. “That used to be until about six months ago,” Juliette responded. “Did your metabolism go, ‘see ya later’?” Othello asked. Again, we don’t know why.

Juliette looked shocked by his statement which naturally prompted Othello to quickly backtrack. He pulled out lines like, “I’m not a fan of skinny girls”, “it’s always good to have… I don’t want to say a little meat because that sounds like you’re fat, which you are not” and the classic, “most men don’t like that skinny look”. Yep, it was car crash telly at its absolute finest and everyone on Twitter was feeling just awkward as Othello looked.

Juliette left for a quick toilet break - to scream into her handbag probably - before coming back to the table to be hit with even more flattery. This time it was about her “beautiful eyes”. And what’s even more surprising is that the pair decided that they would go on another date afterwards. Well, if there’s one thing we learned here it’s that complimenting someone’s eyes will get you out of anything.
