It seems that The Voice Of Ireland’s future is hanging in the balance as RTÉ look for show alternatives.
The fourth season of the entertainment show welcomed two new additions in the form of Rachel Stevens and Una Foden, and The Voice Of Ireland enjoyed its most successful ratings in the series to date with an average of 673,000 viewers tuning in last night.
Today, RTÉ’s Press Office issued a statement responding to claims that the station was looking for entertainment show submissions to fill the Sunday evening slot.
“An average of 673,000 viewers watched last night’s episode of The Voice of Ireland making it the most watched episode in the series to date this year. It was also the most popular show on Irish television over the weekend”, the statement read.
“It’s RTÉ policy to look at alternatives for any returning series which has been on air for a maximum of four years. This is considered best practice as it ensures RTÉ is getting best value for money for our viewers”.
The statement was clear to point out that this did not mean that show would be axed at the end of the series and concluded that a decision would be made later in the year.
“This does not necessarily mean that The Voice of Ireland will not be returning again next year for a fifth season. The decision on this will be made later this year.”
