The first celeb taking part in Strictly Come Dancing has just been officially announced

Rumours of potential stars taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing have been floating around for months, however, now we finally have a name confirmed. Yes, this morning Katie Piper appeared on BBC Breakfast to announce that she will be taking part in this year’s series. Sharing the news, Katie said:

“It’s been so hard to keep a secret. I’ve known for quite a while and it’s been really hard with colleagues saying, ‘I’m getting married in October, I’d love you to be there.’ “I’ve been like, ‘I might be, hopefully not.’ ‘What do you mean, hopefully not?’ It’s just been so difficult.”

The 34-year-old also revealed that all the partaking contestants have been given code names of different cheeses to keep their names secret, Katie’s name was Brie.

“It’s so secretive and when you turn up to the reception, you can’t say what you’re here for or why.”

And when it comes to dance ability, Katie says she has trouble finding the beat.

“I went to a musical on Thursday and my friend noted that I wasn’t even clapping in time, so in terms of rhythm I don’t know how that’s going to go.”

Other stars expected to take part in the new series include Steps star Faye Tozer, radio DJ Vick Hope and Blue singer Lee Ryan.
