There are not enough words to describe Brooklyn – it’s heart-breaking, beautiful, uplifting, charming and unmissable.
It tells the story of Eilis Lacey, played by the incredibly talented Saoirse Ronan, and her journey from Enniscorthy to Brooklyn where she hopes to create a new life for herself.
As well as learning about what it takes to stand on her own two feet and coping with being away from home, she finds out about the heartache and joys of love.
Based on Colm Tóibín’s novel of the same name, the film is directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Hornby.

Saoirse Ronan shines as Eilis. She plays the part with such dignity, emotion and grace that you can’t help but relate to her journey.
While her talent has never been disputed, with leading roles in Atonement and The Lovely Bones, this is certainly a career-defining performance.
You’ll feel her pain and share her joy. It’s no wonder the 21-year-old is being tipped for Oscar success.
Her leading man Emory Cohen (Tony) is just as captivating. He’s handsome, charming and strong making it impossible not to fall in love with him.
Ronan and Cohen are surrounded by what can only be described as an incredible supporting cast.
Domhnall Gleeson plays Jim Farrell to perfection but it’s Julie Walters as Mrs Kehoe who steals the show.
She provides comic relief and delivers some fantastic one-liners. The exchanges between her and her lodgers are some of the best scenes in the movie and will have you laughing out loud.
The film itself is immersed in Irish culture and looks absolutely gorgeous on screen with idyllic settings and that gorgeous 1950s style.
It’s a classic love story that will stay with you. The only criticism I’d have is that it didn’t last long enough.
Brooklyn hits Irish cinemas nationwide on November 6th.
