Netflix’s Too Much is here to save the rom-com genre
It’s a controversial opinion, but TV shows are just too heavy these days. They’re dark and intense and leave us feeling anxious after tuning in. As important as dramas, thrillers and everything in between are, we can’t help but miss the days when coming-of-age and rom-com series dominated our screens.
Thankfully, Netflix is here to save the day with their new rom-com series Too Much.
Fans of Girls will be thrilled to see Luna Dunham make her long-awaited return to TV with this rom-com series. The actress co-created the series with her husband, musician Luis Felber.
Viewers are already freaking out about Too Much, but what is the series about?
Too Much was inspired by the work of Nora Ephron, Mike Nichols, and Nancy Meyers, so our hopes are high.
The synopsis reads:
Too Much follows Jessica (Hack’s Megan Stalter), a workaholic New Yorker who, in the wake of a devastating breakup, heads across the pond only to meet her unexpected match in sleep-until-noon musician Felix (The White Lotus’ Will Sharpe).
‘Over 10 episodes, Jess learns that London — and love — are less like Notting Hill than she thought.’
Dunham told Netflix that the series was inspired by her move to London.
“When I first started coming to the UK for work … I thought to myself, ‘I want to write something about the experience of being a foreigner here, and the fantasies we have of [London] versus the realities. Then, when I met my husband, Luis, I felt like I was experiencing all of that, but in the context of a relationship.”
Will Sharpe (A Real Pain) and Megan Stalter (Hack’s) play the leads in this must-watch rom-com.
Irish actor Andrew Scott also makes a guest appearance in Too Much.
And he isn’t the only famous face starring in the soon-to-be smash hit series.
Richard E. Grant, Rita Wilson, Michael Zegan, Emily Ratajkowski, and Stephen Fry also star in the new series.
Knowing the creator of Girls and producers of Love Actually are behind this series has instilled us with hope that the rom-com genre may be saved after all.
Too Much lands on Netflix on July 10th.
