The news was announced this week.

Ememrdale’s Michael Parr has responded to the ‘false’ claims about his exit from the long-running soap.

The actor, who plays Ross Barton, was announced to be exiting the series earlier this week.

Initial reports said that he was leaving the show because of a number of factors, including the fact that he doesn’t like wearing the acid burn makeup on his face.

Despite the fact that he had already explained why he was leaving the soap – adding that he had had the “best few years” at Emmerdale – the actor took to social media gain to clarify the rumours.

He explained:

“Would just like to state the I’m not leaving Emmerdale because of the make up or because I’m going to become a professional MMA fighter.

“It’s just time for a change….although we all know I could be heavy weight champ if I wanted to be. X”

The actor is set to exit the soap later this year, after five years in the role.

Acting series editor Kate Brooks told The Sun:

“Michael Parr will leave Emmerdale later this year at the end of his current contract.

“His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.

“Michael, who is nominated for Best Actor at the British Soap Awards next month, will leave the show on a high after brilliantly portraying Ross for five years.”
