EastEnders Star Jonny Labey Speaks Out About the Backlash to THAT Paul and Ben Scene

A number of complaints were made when it aired

EastEnders star Jonny Labey has spoken out about the reaction to his character and THAT sex scene.

The actor, who plays Paul Coker in the BBC soap, said that there have been quite a few negative comments aimed in his direction.

He told Gay Times that there was a bit of backlash concerning the scene in which his character and Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) have an encounter in a funeral parlour.

He told Gay Times: “People would have been fine if it was a guy and a girl kissing. We need to move on from discrimination against gay men.

“It was all very positive, I thought, but it wasn’t until I got curious and started nosing around that I found the negative ones.”

Jonny added: “We’re not representing gay men in general, that’s something we’re certainly not doing. What we’re representing is people that felt uncomfortable coming out to their parents.

“No matter what the storyline is, there’ll be a backlash. But it doesn’t matter if it’s a rape storyline or a murder; there’s always people that are affected by them.”
