Last month, it was revealed that Eastenders will air a rape storyline where Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright, is attacked by Deano Wicks.
In a dramatic plot twist, show bosses have revealed that Linda will fall pregnant after the sexual assault.
Fans of the show will know that Linda had previously told husband Mick she wanted another child but after the rape, she is unsure who the baby’s father is.
Kellie spoke about the storyline at an Eastenders press event this week: “I think there are many stages to Linda’s post-rape self and initially there is shock which then leads into questioning herself about what has happened and why it’s happened.
“She feels a huge sense of guilt and consequently realises that Dean sees it in a very different way so she is worried that she’s not going to be believed”.
The storyline is set to begin next week
Explaining how it will affect Mick and Linda’s relationship, she added: “It’s going to have massive repercussions for Mick and Linda. Obviously it affects their physical relationship too.
“I also think she’s scared of what will happen if she tells Mick and what he will to do Dean. I think she feels part of her is broken and she doesn’t want to break him.
“It’s partly because she loves Mick so much that she doesn’t tell him because she doesn’t want to spoil what they have but if she tells him then it’s gone. There are many layers.
“I think one of the most heart breaking things with this story line is what it does to Mick as he doesn’t know what is wrong with Linda.
“The worst thing for me is that it’s turned her into a person that she never was, a liar, and someone that is shut down in a certain way.
“This is EastEnders at its best and I do feel that. It’s going to be really good telly”.
The storyline will begin on Monday 6th October on both BBC1 and RTÉ One at 8pm.
