Corrie bosses have confirmed they are set to film a controversial domestic violence storyline this summer, which will tackle the taboo of child-on-parent abuse.
Leanne Battersby and Simon Barlow will take centre stage for the disturbing storyline, which will see Leanne become the victim of violent outbursts when her stepson’s behaviour blows up.
Viewers will know how Leanne, played by Jane Danson, has had custody of Simon following her split with Peter Barlow, but the relationship between Leanne and stepson Simon has been strained in recent months.
Speaking on This Morning, Corrie executive producer Stuart Blackburn confirmed that there’s a lot of drama in store for the cobbles:
“This summer is going to see ‘Coronation Street’ at its classic best.
“It’s going to be a mixture of romance, of comedy and of drama – and out of that drama, Leanne Battersby is going to find herself at the centre of a domestic abuse story. But this is a story with a twist – the perpetrator is Leanne’s 12-year-old stepson, Simon.”
