This deleted scene from the final season of Game of Thrones would have changed everything

Rebecca O'Keeffe

Imagine?

So it has been a number of weeks since the final episode of Game of Thrones aired, and we’re still a little shook.

The show, which we had watched for the best part of 8 years, didn’t end in the way we expected.

All the characters got their own “finale” of sorts, each ending with an unexpected fate.

However, it seems as though Cersei almost got a different ending to the one we watched on screen.

Recently at a comic convention, Lena Headey, who played the infamous Cersei Lannister, revealed that a key scene had been deleted from the final cut.

Lena revealed that the scene showed Cersei “lose the baby” that she was having with her brother Jaime.

That would have been a very dark scene.

Lena said that she reckons the scene would have explained some of Cersei’s harsh actions and decisions throughout the final season.

She said that it was a “traumatic scene and a great moment for Cersei,” which was ultimately left out of the final edit.

Speaking about the scene, she said:

“I kind of loved doing that because I thought it would’ve served her differently.”

Lena has spoken about her disappointment with Cersei’s ending, admitting that she got a tame ending for such a vicious character.

Speaking to The Guardian about the final season of Game of Thrones:

“I will say I wanted a better death. Obviously you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted.”

“But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”
