Curse of the Black Pearl: Pirates of the Caribbean Ship Sinks in Freak Accident

One of the main ships that featured heavily in the Pirates of the Caribbean films has sunk.

The Brig Unicorn, best known by fans as The Black Pearl, The Henrietta and The Terrasaw in the movies, sank last week in a freak accident.

The ship was en route from St Lucia to St Vincent-Grenadines for repairs when she encountered difficulties.

Nine crew members and captain were on board but they all managed to escape uninjured. The 66-year-old ship was also used in the Golden Globe winning TV show Roots.

The Brig Unicorn was a 148ft ship that was built in Finland back in 1948 to carry cargo. In the 1970’s and mainly sailed around the Caribbean.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean film grossed $654million worldwide upon its release back in 2003.

The fifth instalment of the series Dead Men Tell No Tales is to be in cinemas in 2016.
