The thriller show was shot on location in Donegal.
Crá, a new Irish-language crime thriller mystery series, will be released by TG4 this month.
Commissioned by both the Irish channel and BBC Northern Ireland, the six-part show is described as a “gripping story of murder, secrets and justice in a close-knit Irish village”.
The plot synopsis for Crá (which means ‘anguish’ or ‘torment’) reads:
“Set in the remote northwest of Ireland, Crá follows Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin (Dónall Ó Héalaí – Arracht, Foscadh) as he searches for justice in the most personal of cases – the murder of his own mother, Sabine, whose body is discovered 15 years after her disappearance.
“Forbidden from joining the investigation, Conall partners with a determined young journalist, Ciara-Kate (Hannah Brady, upcoming horror film Visitation), who is using her true-crime podcast to expose the village’s deepest secrets. As they unravel the truth, they must confront a community bound by silence and its own moral codes.
“Every twist of the investigation is broadcast to a growing audience through Ciara-Kate’s podcast. The question remains: Will truth prevail, or will some secrets stay buried forever?”
Shot on location in Donegal, the cast of the series also includes Alan Mahon (King Frankie), Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders), Barry McGovern (Obituary), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall), Róisín Murphy (Vikings) and Tara Breathnach (Dune: Part Two).
The show was also written by Doireann Ní Chorragáin (Fair City) and Richie Conroy (Fran the Man) and directed by Philip Doherty (Redemption of a Rogue).
Sharing her enthusiasm for the project, TG4’s Máire Ní Chonláin said in a statement: “Crá is a powerful and evocative drama that captures the essence of the rugged northwest of Ireland, both in its landscape and in its storytelling.
“This series brings together a talented team of writers, actors, and directors to tell a gripping tale of mystery and justice, while also exploring the modern role of media in uncovering truth.
“We are proud to support a production that showcases not only the beauty of the Irish language but also its relevance and power in contemporary storytelling.
“We believe audiences will be drawn into the intensity and emotion of Crá, and it’s a testament to the strength of cross-border collaboration between TG4 and BBC Northern Ireland.”
Comprising of six 45-minute episodes, Crá will premiere on TG4 on 11 November at 9.30pm. In addition, the show will be made available to stream in its entirety from that day on the TG4 Player.
While an exact BBC airing date has not yet been released, the Irish language series will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and BBC Northern Ireland sometime this November.
