Corrie’s amputation storyline is starting tonight and it’s going to be devastating

Intense.

If you’ve ever watched an episode of Coronation Street, you’ll be more than aware that a fair amount of dramatic stuff has happened over the past few months.

Pat Phelan finally met his grizzly death, David Platt dealt with the trauma of being raped, and Bethany Platt testified against her abuser.

It’s been fairly intense, but tonight Coronation Street is going where Coronation Street has never gone before and introducing an amputation storyline that is going to be as devastating as it is shocking.

Tonight’s episodes of the show will see little Jack Webster brought to the hospital after becoming seriously unwell.

The boy collapses while being looked after by his sister Sophie and is told that he just has a viral infection and should go home and sleep it off.

However, later on when Ali makes a house call, he notices that Jack has some unusual discolouring on his fingers and toes.

A second opinion is given and eventually it’s revealed that Jack has contracted sepsis and that he could be facing a leg amputation due to the illness.

Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie, told Digital Spy that her character is going to blame herself for not bringing her brother to the doctor soon.

She said:

“It’s not until they get to the hospital that Ali mentions sepsis. Sophie doesn’t really know what it is or what it means, but she can see things are moving quickly and she’s terrified.

“Sophie blames herself for failing to realise the seriousness of Jack’s illness. She feels a mixture of guilt, shock and fear, I think. It just seems to escalate so quickly and she’s lost with all the medical jargon. They just have to hope that Jack’s in the right hands now and he responds to the treatment.”

Coronation Street continues tonight on TV3 at 7.30pm.
