Christina Applegate shares update one year after MS diagnosis

She took time off from filming.

Actress Christina Applegate has shared an update with fans after revealing her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis last year. The Dead to Me star is currently promoting the show's third season, but explained that she had to take a five-month break after she learned she had the condition. She noted how the crew of the show made it clear that there was no pressure on her to continue filming at all, but she was determined to get it done. In a recent interview with the New York Times, she explained how she came to terms with the idea that her condition isn't going to just get better with medicine, and how the time off was important for her. She said: "There was the sense of, 'Well, let’s get her some medicine so she can get better.' And there is no better. But it was good for me. I needed to process my loss of my life, my loss of that part of me. So I needed that time." Christina also spoke about how important it was for her to continue working on her "own terms". She said: "I had an obligation. The powers that be were like, 'Let’s just stop. We don’t need to finish it.'" One of the options presented to her was for production to put together some episodes with previously recorded footage. "I said, 'No. We’re going to do it, but we’re going to do it on my terms.'" Last year, Christina share news of her MS diagnosis on Twitter. She wrote: "Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. "It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it." She added: "As one of my friends that has MS said 'we wake up and take the indicated action'. And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo." More recently, on Twitter, Christina shared that she now uses a cane, and has gained some weight as a result of her condition.
