Call the Midwife is returning this week
A new series of ‘Call the Midwife’ is just around the corner and we cannot wait for it to air.
The 13th series of the BBC drama will return on January 7th, but fans are already concerned about two characters.
The show is always an emotional watch, but is one relationship already in jeopardy?
Fans are concerned about Nurse Trixie and her husband, Matthew who appear to be having marriage difficulties already.
During the Christmas special, the newlyweds were settling down in their home, but their bliss was quickly interrupted by Trixie’s brother.
The actors hinted at trouble in paradise in a recent interview with Radio Times.
Helen George and Olly Rix said what happens to the couple is “heartbreaking”.
Helen George said: “It was fascinating and a complete surprise [that they’re having financial troubles]. Heidi [Thomas, creator] wrote these incredible storylines about how they can carry on in their relationship, or can’t because she [Trixie] thinks she’s marrying something completely different and she enjoys the title of Lady Aylward.
The actors said it’s an emotional rollercoaster for their characters.
“The marital relationship is pretty much the same whether it was 50 years ago or today, but it’s almost like a sort of kitchen sink drama – they become so active and so visceral and utterly heartbreaking.”
There were rumours that Olly Rix was leaving the series, but producers confirmed that the actor will feature in season 13.
Call the Midwife returns to BBC 1 on Sunday, January 7th.
