Billy Zane has suggested a totally blasphemous alternate ending for ‘Titanic’

UNTHINKABLE.

When it comes to boo-hiss movie scumbags, the character of Cal Hockley in Titanic is right up there.

The repulsive millionaire – played in the movie by Billy Zane – is the snobby, abusive fiance of Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), and is so thoroughly vile that he arguably ended up being even more hated than the bloody iceberg that sank the ship.

That being said, his horrible relationship with Rose did ultimately produce one of the great rejections/insults of ’90s cinema:

Alas, we all know how the Titanic movie ends (18 year old spoiler alert). Hero Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) sinks to the bottom of the Atlantic because Rose wouldn’t shove over on that blasted floating door.

Rose then makes it to America, swerves rotter Cal who is looking for her on the rescue ship, changes her name, and make a wonderful life for herself.

Well, now actor Billy Zane, who played Cal (BOO!!), has offered up his own preferred ending for Titanic – and the mere thought of it is almost too horrifying to contemplate.

Are you ready?

Speaking to US morning show Today, Zane opined that Rose should have ended up with Cal at the end of the movie.

“Everyone thinks I’m that guy in real life,” he said, when asked about playing the character. “Everyone says to me, ‘Where’s the diamond? You have a terrible shot!'”

Then the interviewers asked him if he believes Rose should have chosen Cal. He replied:

“Yes. I think he found redemption at the end, and I wish he’d found her on the Carpathia [rescue ship] at the end and been able to right his wrongs.”

The clip can be watched in full here:

Zane has been speaking about this quite a bit lately. He told  ‘Us’ magazine: “The world is divided into two kinds. When [women] were younger, they were like, ‘How can you do that to Jack?’ And when they grow up, they [now say to me], ‘What was Rose thinking?’”
