Spoilers for last night’s Bake Off ahead.
Eliminations on the Great British Bake Off are never easy, and they certainly get harder as each week goes by.
We get to know the bakers, their strengths, their weaknesses, their personalities. As the competition progresses, we get to see their friendships with one another bloom.
Last night’s elimination, however, was particularly painful as one fan-favourite had to leave the tent.
German baker Jürgen narrowly missed out on making next week’s final after the bakers rose to the challenge of pâtisserie week.
Jürgen started his Bake Off journey strong, and was awarded Star Baker three times throughout the competition.
However, last night saw Chigs, Chrystelle and Giuseppe receive a highly coveted handshake from judge Paul Hollywood, while Jürgen missed out.
As Noel and Matt announced Chrystelle as star baker, the contestants were shocked as Jürgen was told he’d be leaving the tent.

After his elimination, he said: “I feel kind of okay. I kind of saw it coming. I think the others are more shocked than I am.”
He continued: “I really enjoyed being here. I made friends for life and I will be with them in spirit.”
Fans of the show, however, were devastated to see him go, and took to Twitter to air their grievances.
Some felt that they couldn’t face next week’s final without the German baker.
