With rumours having swirled for years about another sequel for the beloved franchise, Princess Mia herself has finally confirmed the news in a post to her Instagram.
"Miracles happen," she captioned the video, which sees her say the iconic 'shut up' line from the film.
The clip ended with a screenshot of Variety's confirmation that she will return, and news that the director of Joyride and Crazy Rich Asians, Adele Lim, has signed on to direct.
“As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a statement.
“We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
Little is known yet about the details of the third film, but it is expected to follow on from the story of the two original movies, rather than being a reboot.
Fans have responded to the news with understandable levels of excitement.
"I’m reaaaaadyyyy! QUEEN of Genovia," one person wrote.
A second put: "OH MY GOD MY CHILDHOOD!!!!"
Another penned: "So wonderful, my heart can't take it!"
While a fourth put: "My 7 yr old self is having her inner princess moment with this announcement!!"
