OK, this sounds pretty terrifying.
A movie theatre chain has announced a series of clown-only screenings of IT: Chapter Two.
Yes, really.
American theatre chain Alamo Drafthouse have confirmed the return of the screenings after the success of their initial run back when IT came out in 2017.
Asking fans to “allow us to float something past you,” they said on their website:
“From humble beginnings as a sarcastic response to a snarky Facebook comment, we terrified coulrophobes with sold-out Clowns Only screenings of Stephen King’s IT: CHAPTER ONE in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, Omaha, and Brooklyn. Folks took notice.
“Are they back for the concluding chapter of Stephen King’s magnum opus? Oh yes. Clowns Only screenings are on sale now for IT: CHAPTER TWO, director Andy Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s smash hit, a visceral and gleefully deranged story of small-town evil where even sweet old ladies can turn into nude psychotic killers in an instant.”
The screenings will be taking place at 17 locations across the United States, from Los Angeles to Raleigh, North Carolina (you can find out more information here).
The theatre also clarified just what a “clowns only” screening meant, asking those who bought tickets to…well, come dressed as a clown.
They continued:
“Wig, makeup, oversized pants and suspenders, blood-curdling makeup. Then you’ll watch the chilling conclusion to the biggest horror duology ever made with a theater full of fellow… clowns. “
Pennywise will be returning to the big screen next month when IT: Chapter Two hits cinemas.
The story follows a group of children, The Losers Club, who have appeared to defeat the evil creature after a series of horrifying events were unleashed in their hometown of Derry, Maine.
27 years later, the group reunite and realise new horrors are taking place in their hometown – and that they have to find a way to get rid of Pennywise once and for all.
