Obsessed with You?
You probably are.
It was essentially the only thing people were talking about over the Christmas break apart from Bandersnatch and that terrible sequel to The Strangers.
If you’re not obsessed with You though, and haven’t got a clue why other people are, please just watch a few episodes of it.
You’ll either love every second of it and never want it to end… Or you’ll hate every second of it but despite this never want it to end.
There is no in between.
If you’re a fan of the show, chances are you’ve probably finished it, thus leaving a Penn Badgley/thriller/generally creep-based hole in your heart.
And while the series has already been commissioned for a second season, we’ve all still got a seriously long time to wait before we can be equal parts horrified and enthralled by serial killer Joe and his murdering ways again.
Still though, that doesn’t mean that we can’t speculate about what might happen in season two – especially when these speculations are coming straight from the sequel to You, the novel.
Major spoilers for season one ahead if you’ve yet to finish.
Hidden Bodies is the follow up to You the novel, written by Caroline Kepnes.
It picks up a little after the first book left off – which is coincidentally extremely similar to where the first series finished up.
Joe has killed Beck, buried her body, and gone back to living a normal life working in his bookstore and being a general creep.
In the series, Joe is confronted with his ex girlfriend who the audience assumes is actually dead. In the second book, Joe has a new love interest, a woman named Amy who he seems to be just as obsessed with.
Unfortunately for Joe though – and for anybody who crosses him – Amy isn’t exactly the most loyal of people.
She decides to rob Joe and heads off to LA, leaving the bookstore owner (apparently) no choice but to follow her via his assortment of stalker-based skills he has acquired over the years.
Along the way, he meets a new love interest – aptly named Love – who he starts up a pretty intense relationship with.
Things only continue to get more dodgy though as Joe is constantly reminded of the DNA evidence mounting against him back home, the trail of destruction he’s been leaving in his wake, and Beck’s body rotting in the ground.
Now, there’s absolutely nothing to suggest that Netflix’s season two of You is going to follow this narrative at all.
For all we know, the series could steer in an entirely different direction, lead with Candace’s return, and leaving Joe to face his demons in New York.
Or, Candace will follow a similar path as Amy does in the book, robbing Joe of all he’s got and heading off on her own, leaving the serial killer no choice but to follow her and kill whoever happens to get in his way.
Reports have suggested that season two will indeed be shot in California so, you know, maybe we’re not a million miles away.
Sure look, we’ll just have to wait and see.
