Which Women Are In With a Chance of Winning Wimbledon?

It's the second week of Wimledon which means we're really getting down to the nitty gritty. Find out who we reckon has a good chance of winning the ladies' draw.

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships have been blown wide open this year in the women’s draw with some big players, including Jelena Jankovic and Venus Williams, both suffering defeats in the early rounds.

But it’s all to play for and this time next week, weather permitting of course, the winner will be crowned. Here are the ladies we reckon have a good chance of picking up the giant dish.

1. Petra Kvitova

She may only be young at the age of twenty-two but the Czech has bags of talent. In fact she has six feet of it. While she may have not won any other majors, she is the defending champion.

2. Serena Williams

As the only Williams sister left, Serena will be determined to bring a fifth Wimbledon title home. As with every year, she gets better as the tournament progresses so expect big hitting from her this week.

3. Ana Ivanovic

Ivanovic will be eager to make an impression at this year’s Wimbledon. The former world number one hasn’t been on form in recent times but if anyone can cause a shock by lifting the trophy, it’s the Serbian.

4. Maria Sharapova

Fresh from her win at the French Open Sharapova might just have a chance of bagging her second Wimbledon title this year. As if she doesn’t have enough motivation, she lost out last year in the final.

5. Kim Clijsters

The Belgian has come back from retirement more times than sense but we’re certainly glad she has. The former number one has over forty singles titles to her name so we’re not writing her off just yet.

We’ll be keeping an eye on how the second week of Wimbledon plays out but more importantly we can’t wait to see who, if any, in this group will be lifting the dish on Saturday.
