You know when you find out about a new celebrity couple and you think, ‘awk aren’t they just lovely together?’
Well then you’ll also know about the unexplainable heartache you feel when things go pear-shaped for that same couple.
At Her.ie we thought it was about time we channelled our feelings of sadness for our favourite celebrity romances that haven’t lasted the distance.
1. Danny O’Donoghue and Irma Mali
We’re kicking our list off with a recent split that is also close to home. Yes we’re talking about The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue and his gorgeous model girlfriend Irma Mali. With his musical talent and her looks we were sure this one would lead to a lifetime of happiness and a very talented brood.
2. Seal and Heidi Klum
Now this split really did shock us to our very cores. Seal and Heidi spent eight years and have four children together. We didn’t see it coming at all and our hearts broke a little bit more when he refused to remove his wedding band just because things had ended. So lovely!
3. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
We’ll never ever get over this split. Jen and Brad were a match made in All-American heaven and we had all our fingers and toes crossed for them to expand their family with the pitter patter of tiny, and might we add gorgeous, feet. But it simply wasn’t to be in the end. Why God, why?
4. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
When we heard these two were mixing work and pleasure on the set of The Notebook our hearts were crushed and elated. While we were sad that Ryan was unavailable we couldn’t think of a nicer girlfriend for him. When they split in 2007 our hearts melted. And while we like Eva Mendes and Michael Sheen, we still secretly have our fingers crossed for these two.
5. Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush
As if we weren’t heartbroken enough when Sophia Bush split up with One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray, then her relationship with another co-star Austin Nichols ended. As one of the best looking couples ever to walk the planet, we’re so sad these two are no longer together. And we can’t even console ourselves with the show because it’s over too!
6. Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis
They were one of the most private A-list couples and had fourteen, what seemed to be incredible, years together. We really thought these two were meant to be.
7. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
Despite ten years together, this superstar couple decided to call it quits back in 2001. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Tom’s marriage to Katie Holmes is looking like it’s heading for divorce. At least we still have a silver lining in the shape of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.
8. David Arquette and Courteney Cox
So we’ve already had one Friends star on the list but it’s only right that we include this one as well. Having met on the set of Scream, David Arquette and Courteney Cox fell madly in love and got married. Eleven years later, they decided it was time to go their separate ways. Although we’re sad, we’re glad they’re not throwing cheap shots at one another.
9. Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez
We thought this Latino pairing was going to last the distance and were praying that it would for J-Lo’s sake. After numerous trips down the aisle we reckoned she had finally found her Prince Charming. ‘Ain’t It Funny’ how wrong you can be?
10. Ronan Keating and Yvonne Keating
Another Irish coupling we were disappointed to see come to the end of their road together was Ronan and Yvonne Keating. Having put his infidelity behind them, we thought they were fully back on track and that ‘No Matter What’ happened they would be together. Guess not.
At least we have the likes of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to stop us from going crazy and losing all our faith in celebrity romance…
