Tommy Wiseau waited almost 20 years to get on the Golden Globes stage but, when he arrived, he was denied the chance to speak as James Franco blocked his path to the microphone.
Franco claimed the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his role as Wiseau in The Disaster Artist, the movie about the making of the cult film The Room.
Wiseau had a dream to make it in Hollywood and while he wasn’t allowed to deliver a speech, he will feel vindicated by the fact that his story was honoured by the industry about which he has been forever obsessed.
Offering a taste of his incredible Wiseau impression, Franco revealed how life had come full circle for Wiseau as he accepted the award.
Franco said: “19 years ago, he was stuck in traffic from the Golden Globes. He said to his best friend Greg [Sestero], ‘The Golden Globes? So what – I’m not invited, so I show them. I don’t wait for Hollywood. I make my own movie. I’m very happy to share this moment with him today.'”

In case you don’t know who Wiseau is, we can’t provide much in the way of clarity because nobody knows where he comes from, how old he is or how he came up with the money to buy all the equipment required to make The Room.
Revealing what he’d have said had he been given the chance to speak at the podium, Wiseau told the LA Times that his message would have been simple: “If a lot of people loved each other, the world would be a better place to live.”
If success stories are what you like then the sight of Wiseau on stage at the Golden Globes, 15 years after the release of the so-called ‘best worst film ever’ will make you smile.
And if you haven’t seen The Room, change that immediately. Like, right now. Go watch it!
