Over the years there have been a lot of strange rumours about Tom Cruise and his marriage to recent ex-wife Katie Holmes, but now the actor has slammed claims that Scientology officials auditioned dozens of young women for him before he picked Katie Holmes to be his bride.
In a statement, which was issued in response to an article in Vanity Fair magazine, Tom Cruises’ representative said: “Lies in a different font are still lies – designed to sell magazines.”
According to Vanity Fair, Scientology higher-ups organised an “audition” process in order to find the actor a wife, and apparently, Katie was not even the first choice. If rumours are to be believed, the church itself wanted Tom to get hitched to a young actress who was already a Scientologist, but this idea was quickly scrapped when the actress in question was seen as being disrespectful.
The allegations about Tom’s marriage to Katie are made by Maureen Orth, a writer, in the October issue of Vanity Fair magazine. According to Ms Orth, the project to find Tom Cruise a new wife following his split from Nicole Kidman, started in 2004 and was headed by the wife of the church’s top official David Miscavige.
Apparently, Mr Miscavige’s wife selected actress Nazanin Boniad for the role of Tom’s wife, however she was later dropped and Katie Holmes took her place.
However, representatives for the actor have blasted these allegations and rumours as being nothing more than lies.
Tom denies that any ‘wife-auditions’ took place before he married Katie Holmes.
At present, Katie Holmes has yet to delve into any great detail about the breakdown of her marriage to the Mission Impossible actor, although there are rumours that the actress is currently negotiating a book deal about her ordeal.
