Megha’s parents described her as ‘the light of our life’
Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur has died “suddenly and unexpectedly” at the age of 21.
The influencer, who was from Brampton, Ontario, was well known for promoting self-confidence, body positivity and South Asian representation on her platform – where she had amassed 930,000 followers.
Thakur’s parents confirmed their daughter’s passing in an Instagram post on Tuesday, writing: “It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on 24 November 2022 in the early morning hours.
“She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha.
“Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey.”
The post was signed off by “Megha’s loving parents”.

Thakur posted her first TikTok in November 2019 and her most viral video amassed over 10 million views. In it the social media star teachers her followers how to move their butt after a commenter requested a tutorial.
Thakur’s fans have been posting tributes to her on social media.

In Thakur’s most recent Instagram post, she was filmed walking around New York City, with the late star emphasising the importance of self-love and confidence in the caption.
