Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham is set to return for a new season of Teen Mom OG (Original Girls), joining former cast members Catelyn Lowell, Amber Portwood and Maci Bookout for the spinoff show.
Confirming the news to US Weekly, Farrah said:
“There’s going to be lots of excitement from the Teen Mom fans and MTV’s fan base as well, so I’m excited to be back!”
Farrah with daughter Sophia, who will be 5 in the new season of the show
Fans of the show will remember Farrah from the show, who was acting as a single mother to daughter Sophia following the death of her on-off boyfriend Derek Underwood before the birth of her child. Farrah’s relationship with her mother was a central focus of her drama on-screen, with the pair debating over how to raise Sophia and Debra being charged for assault of her daughter.
Show creator Lauren Dolgen said they approached Farrah to rejoin the cast after seeing initial footage of the other three girls:
“We had shot a couple of story lines, and there is something about having that fourth story to counterbalance – there’s just a magic to four stories and four different points of view.”
Farrah added that she felt she had more to share of her story on the hit MTV show:
“I think they were more or less saying that there was more to my story that they really felt was missing from the Teen Mom show, and I totally agree with them. I understand their point of view, and it was a funny situation to be in.”
The 23-year old says she chose to return to the show so she can provide support for daughter Sophia:
“I think Teen Mom is important for the children and their futures. And I think it holds some good opportunities for Sophia and her future.
“I’m not doing anything differently that I would not do when the cameras are there or not there. I mean, I don’t know if it really benefits me to be on TV because I was most successful in my career when I was away from Teen Mom. So if it benefits me then that’s randomly benefitting. I’m more or less looking at it to benefit Sophia.”
The new season is currently being filmed for MTV.
