Sue Perkins reveals she has been diagnosed with ADHD

“Once I had the diagnosis, suddenly everything made sense.”

Former Great British Bake Off host Sue Perkins has spoken about her recent ADHD diagnosis.

Over the weekend, Sue shared that she had the condition while replying to musician Tom Grey on Twitter.

He wrote: “I’m creeping towards an ADHD diagnosis. Strongly advised to do it to help me but more likely help people who have relationships with me. Never realised before how object permanence is such a problem for me. Staying in touch rarely if ever occurs to me. I can only apologise.”

To this, the comedian wrote that she herself has “fully crept” to an ADHD diagnosis.

“I have fully crept,” she wrote. “Once I had the diagnosis, suddenly everything made sense – to me and to those who love me.”

She then wished Tom well on his journey.

According to the NHS, ADHD is a condition that “affects people’s behaviour”. Those with ADHD may come across as restless, they might act on impulse and they may have difficulty concentrating.

The past few years have seen a number of celebrities share their ADHD diagnosis, which they received later in life.

Dr Alex George, of Love Island fame, was praised for sharing his experience with ADHD last year.

In a post on Instagram, he wrote: “This isn’t an easy one to write. I am sat on my bed and I’m not 100% sure where to start.

“I have suspected for most of my teenage and adult life that I’m not the same as a lot of the others around me.

“I struggled when others did not, and thrived where others found challenge. I have tried to hide and also conform for most of my life. Why? My fear has always been that I don’t want to be labelled and judged.”

He continued: “The tipping point for me to finally see someone was my Stompcast conversation with Toddla T, who gave me the strength to stop burying my head in the sand and look for some answers.

“Over the last few months I have been undergoing assessment for, and have now been ‘diagnosed’ with, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.”
