On Sunday evening news broke that over 100 celebrities had fallen victim to a hacking scandal as nude photographs of stars were leaked online in what has been described as a large-scale security breach.
An anonymous hacker claims to have obtained the private images of celebs, reportedly via Apple’s iCloud service, and the leaked pictures were then posted on website 4chan.
Names on the “master list” include Kate Upton, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Mary E Winstead, Cara Delevingne, Kate Bosworth, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Lawrence.
Lawrence’s friend Emma Watson took to Twitter to air her thoughts on the scandal and condemned the actions of not only the hacker/hackers behind the leak but those passing judgement and comments from the public.
Even worse than seeing women’s privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy.

24-year-old Lawrence’s spokesperson released the following statement in the aftermath of the hacking: “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence”.
Yesterday, the anonymous hacker took to the 4chan site to justify their actions, claiming that they are not a hacker, rather a ‘collector’.
