It’s been a good night for 33-year old Eddie Redmayne who scooped Best Actor at yesterday’s Academy Awards for his portrayl of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
Following last night’s success, Hawking himself publicly congratulated the star for his role. In a heartwarming message to the young man, Hawking posted to Facebook:
Accepting the gong, Redmayne dedicated the award to all those living with Motor Neurone Disease, telling the audience:
“I am fully aware that I am a lucky, lucky man.
“This Oscar belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS. It belongs to one exceptional family. I will be its custodian and I will promise you I will look after him.”
Hawking previously admitted to having shed a tear when he first saw The Theory of Everything, telling critics:
“I thought Eddie Redmayne portrayed me very well.”
